The importance of environmental printing

Luckily, here at Maxwell House we work with a strict environmental policy, to ensure that we have as little impact on the environment as possible. So why is this important and how exactly do we do this?

Why does environmental printing matter?

There are more than 12,000 printing companies in the United Kingdom. It may surprise you that despite working with one of nature’s main resources, only a small minority have environmental policies or a duty of care to the world we live in. The paper and print industry is one of the top 5 in the UK – Maxwell House printers therefore acknowledge the necessity to adopt environmental printing policies, in order to actively limit the negative impacts on the wider world.

What initiatives do we have in place?

Chemistry-free plate making

To transfer an image to paper, printing plates are used. To achieve environmental printing, we put our images onto the printing plates via laser engraving, which doesn’t use chemicals. Only available since 2006, chemistry free plates are a relatively new addition to printing technologies – but enable Maxwell House to keep ahead of the game in terms of both printing quality and environmental printing compliancy.

Energy efficient and environmental printing presses

Able to produce more printing in shorter times and with less energy, efficient printing presses are vital if companies want to be as environmentally friendly as possible. We use a press from Heidelberg, which can produce speeds of up to 15,000 sheets per hour. This results in less energy expenditure and a smaller carbon footprint.

Paper recycling

According to the Environmental Paper Network, recycling 1 ton of printing or copier paper saves slightly more than 2 tons of wood. With this in mind, Maxwell House Printers are keen to maximise the amount of paper that we recycle – we recycle any paper that we can, and use sustainable sources wherever possible. In turn, these factors help to reduce the amount of trees being felled.

Enhanced quality with environmental printing

With a focus on responsible printing, we are able to keep our environmental impact to a minimum. By using more efficient processes, we are also able to create high quality prints – including wedding, educational and promotional printing. Choosing Maxwell House Printers for your printing services removes any guilt associated with environmental impact – and offers you bespoke products tailor made to your requirements.
